Perly’s, a longtime downtown breakfast and lunch spot on E. Grace Street has closed, at least temporarily.
Passersby and TV news crews gathered in front of the restaurant at lunchtime this afternoon. The normally glowing Perly’s neon light stood cold and a sign taped to the front door from owner Gray Wyatt apologized to customers.
“To my dear friends, Perlys has hit a rough patch. I am hoping to sort it out but must close for now,” the note said. “So sorry, Gray.”
Perly’s has been in business for more than 50 years at 111. E. Grace St. Wyatt has owned it for nearly 30 years. The restaurant is typically open 7 a.m. 3 p.m.
