After a fire forced it to close, Carena’s Jamaican Grille is set to reopen April 7 at 7102 Midlothian Turnpike, near the Beaufont Mall Shopping Center.

It isn’t the first time owner Carena Ives has had to reopen her restaurant.

In August 2012, Ives’ landlord wanted to raze the property to build a space designed to fit in with the look of nearby development. So she closed her restaurant and reopened in March 2013 in a freshly built space on the same spot. Five months later, an electrical fire again forced Ives to close.

“We just roll with the punches,” Ives said.

After spending $100,000 on repairs, Ives is ready to welcome back her customers.

“You might not be able to travel to Jamaica,” she said. “But you can come to Carena’s.”

Ives said all of the staff is returning. Ives also owns Jamaica House Restaurant at 1215 W. Broad St., which she opened in 1994.

This is great news. I’ve tried stopping by for lunch a few times thinking it was open again with no avail. I’m glad to hear the doors are opening again this month!

Agreed, I’m happy to see Carena’s opening again, I was worried it might not at one point. Yet one more jewel in the redevelopment of the old Cloverleaf – Beaufont area. Love that Jamaican jerk panini and goat curry burrito.

It is great news that Carena’s is reopening! The new space is very nice.

However the development has not been called Beaufont Mall for some time now. The Bond Companies purchased and renamed the property several years ago. The correct name is Spring Rock Green.
