The long arm of the law is reaching into the SunTrust Center.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Richmond has leased nearly 30,000 square feet of space in the downtown high-rise at 919 E. Main St.

It will move its 60 Richmond-based employees this spring from its current space at 600 E. Main St., said Gina Blyther Gilliam, regional spokesperson for the U.S. General Services Administration. The GSA handles real estate transactions for government agencies.

“Delivering on the agency’s mission to provide the best value in real estate, GSA conducted this competitive lease procurement,” Gilliam said in an email. “The SunTrust Center was the lowest price, technically acceptable offer.”

The office signed a 10-year lease for half of the 18th floor and all of the 19th floor. The new space is 2,000 square feet smaller than the U.S. Attorney’s current Richmond office. It has operated out of 600 E. Main St. since 1991, spokeswoman Laura Taylor said.

The 25-story SunTrust building is owned by Miami-based Parmenter Realty Partners. Brokers Russell Wyatt and Jamie Galanti of Commonwealth Commercial Partners handle leasing for the landlord.

The U.S. Attorney isn’t the only legal body shuffling around East Main Street in recent months.

The Virginia State Bar moved from 707 E. Main St. to the Bank of America Center at 1111 E. Main St. in the spring.
