The owner of a Fan restaurant property filed last-minute bankruptcies on Monday to stave off two foreclosures set for the following day.

Two LLCs managed by Pie restaurant owner Mo Roman filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection late in the day on Nov. 17. The filings were made just ahead of foreclosure auctions that were scheduled for the Pie property at 214 N. Lombardy St. and a second restaurant space in Stafford, Va., where Roman operates another restaurant.

The LLCs are JTB Fan LLC and Roman Investment LLC. JTB Fan is the entity that owns the Pie pizza restaurant space. It defaulted on the loan issued on the Fan property in 2007, triggering the attempted foreclosure.

Roman Investment owns the Stafford property at 33 Wicomico Drive that houses Buffalo Mo’s Tap & Grill. Roman Investment defaulted on a loan issued to it in 2005 for an original amount of $626,250. Fulton Bank is the lender pushing for both foreclosures.

Roman could not be reached for comment.

Kevin Lake of Richmond-based law firm McDonald, Sutton & DuVal is the attorney listed on the bankruptcy filings. Lake did not return a call seeking comment.

Steve Goodwin, an attorney who has previously spoken on Roman’s behalf, did not return a call by press time.
