Tape backup method
Patent No. 8,904,080
A secure data parser is provided that may be integrated into any suitable system for securely storing and communicating data. The secure data parser parses data and then splits the data into multiple portions that are stored or communicated distinctly. Encryption of the original data, the portions of data, or both may be employed for additional security. The secure data parser may be used to protect data in motion by splitting original data into portions of data, that may be communicated using multiple communications paths.

Automated migration to a new copy services target storage system to manage multiple relationships simultaneously while maintaining disaster recovery consistency
Patent No. 8,904,131
A system according to one embodiment, includes one or more source volumes on a source storage subsystem from which data is copied in first copy services relationships, the one or more source volumes being accessible to an application; one or more original target volumes on an original target storage subsystem to which data is copied in the first copy services relationships; logic configured for selecting a new target storage subsystem to replace the original target storage subsystem; logic configured for creating second copy services relationships between one or more new target volumes on the new target storage subsystem and the one or more source volumes on the source storage subsystem using multi-target functionality; and logic configured for terminating the first copy services relationships after all of the second copy services relationships are full duplex.

Optical attachment for reducing the focal length of an objective lens
Patent No. 8,903,232
An optical attachment having five or six elements and configured to be operably arranged on the image side of an objective lens to reduce the focal length and focal ratio of the objective lens is disclosed. The optical attachment is particularly suitable for adapting objective lenses designed with a relatively large working distance for a large format size to cameras having a smaller format size and relatively small permissible working distance. The optical attachments disclosed herein have high image quality at large aperture over a large field of view, and can be well-corrected for all major aberrations.

Banded papers, smoking articles and methods
Patent No. 8,905,043
Wrapper for cigarette manufacture includes transversely extending band regions applied by a printing technique, such as gravure printing. The band regions comprise starch, an anti-wrinkling agent such as 1, 2 propylene glycol or glycerin, and optionally calcium carbonate. Any suitable printing technique can be used to apply the aqueous solution to the banded regions. The pattern of banded regions may be bands, stripes, two-dimensional arrays, undulated regions, and the like along and/or around the tobacco rod. The pattern can be applied in one or more layers. The pattern may be configured so that when a smoking article is placed on a substrate, at least two longitudinal locations along the length of the tobacco rod have film-forming compound located only on sides of the smoking article not in contact with the substrate.

Process of forming an aramid copolymer
Patent No. 8,907,052
The invention concerns processes for forming a polymer comprising residues of 2-(4-amino phenyl)-5(6)amino benzimidazole (DAPBI), paraphenylene diamine (PPD), and terephthaloyl dichloride, comprising the steps of: (a) forming a slurry of DAPBI in a solvent system comprising an organic solvent and an inorganic salt; (b) adding less than a stoichiometric amount, relative to the amount of DAPBI, of terephthaloyl dichloride to the slurry; (c) agitating the slurry to react the DAPBI and terephthaloyl dichloride to form an oligomeric solution; (d) adding PPD to the oligomeric solution and agitating until essentially all of the PPD is dissolved, followed by the addition of terephthaloyl dichloride to form a prepolymer solution; and (e) allowing the prepolymer solution to form a polymer.

Sodium chlorine spray treatment of the leaves present on tobacco plants to significantly reduce TSNAs in cured tobacco produced therefrom
Patent No. 8,905,041
Methods for increasing the concentration of antioxidants during senescence and curing of tobacco leaves include application of a chemical solution. The methods include spraying the solution onto the tobacco plant prior to harvest and/or applying the chemical solution to the soil surrounding roots of growing tobacco plants. The application of the chemical solution preferably occurs between topping and harvest, and is optimized to simulate the production of antioxidants and interfere with the formation of TSNAs during curing. The tobacco can be burley tobacco subjected to air curing.
