Arepas and cachapas have arrived on Grace Street.
Kanoa Latin Cuisine opened June 15 at 417 W. Grace St., one of a few restaurants along that stretch between North Adams and North Belvidere streets.
Owner Yofre Blanco said the restaurant’s blend of Venezuelan and Italian fare has been well-received so far.
“I was kind of surprised,” Blanco said, “but I have followers from Mechanicsville.”
Kanoa is open Tuesday through Saturday for dinner. Lunch and Sunday brunch will eventually be added. Menu items include gluten-free arepas, a Venezuelan flatbread, and sweet corn pancakes called cachapas, as well as lasagna and ravioli.
Kanoa opens about a year after Blanco closed his other restaurant in Mechanicsville, Sapori Italian and Latin Cuisine, which had a similar menu to Kanoa.
“We want to showcase our food in Richmond,” Blanco said.
Blanco plans to do monthly wine dinners at Kanoa. The restaurant, which has a full bar, also sells bottled wine and beer to be consumed on or off-site.
