Apple Hospitality REIT (APLE)

The hotel-focused REIT reported its earnings for the quarter that ended Sept. 30. Revenue totaled $221.9 million, up from $213.8 million the same quarter in 2014. Year-to-date revenue totaled $628.9 million, compared to $552.6 million through September last year. Net income for the quarter was $46.9 million, up from $35.1 million the same quarter last year. Year-to-date net income totaled $135 million, compared to a loss the same timeframe last year of $15.5 million.

C&F Financial (CFFI)

Chairman and CEO Larry Dillon exercised options for 1,000 shares at $37.99 per share. He then sold the shares at market price for $38.87 for a total of $38,870.

Bryan McKernon, president of C&F Mortgage, exercised options for 1,000 shares at $37.99. He then sold the shares at $39 each for a total of $39,000.

President and CFO Tom Cherry exercised options for  2,000 shares at $37.99. He then sold those shares at $39 apiece and sold an additional 300 shares for $38.50 for a combined total of $89,550.

Dominion (D)

Vice president Michele Cardiff purchased 16.91 shares of common stock at $70.84 per share for a total of $1,197.

Dynex Capital (DX)

The mortgage REIT filed its third quarter earnings report. Mortgage-backed securities totaled $25.7 million, up from $25.2 million the same quarter last year. Year-to-date, mortgage-backed securities totaled 73.6 million, down from 79.1 million through September 2014. Net income for the quarter was a loss of $36.9 million, compared to a gain of $30.8 million the same quarter last year. Year-to-date net income was a loss of $15.9 million, compared to a gain the same timeframe last year of $24.1 million.

James River Coal (JRC)

The company filed its latest monthly operating report as part of its reorganization under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Markel (MKL)

The company reported its third quarter earnings for 2015. Revenues totaled $963.6 million, up from $954 million the same quarter of 2014. Year-to-date revenues totaled $2.864 billion, compared to $2.868 billion through September last year. Net income for the quarter totaled $104.4 million, up from $76.8 million the same three months last year. Year-to-date net income totaled $390.8 million, up from $205.4 million last year.

Vice chairman Anthony Markel gave a gift of 250 shares of common stock on Oct. 6. He now owns 76,111 directly owned shares.

Vice chairman Steven Markel gave gifts of 250 and 200 shares of common stock on Oct. 6 and 19, respectively. He now owns 242,710 directly owned shares.

Media General (MEG)

The company reported its third quarter earnings for 2015. Revenues totaled $321.7 million, roughly double the $160.2 million reported the same quarter last year. Year-to-date revenue reached $938.9 million, compared to $458.2 million through September last year. Net income for the quarter was a loss of $55.8 million, compared to a gain of $13.8 million the same quarter last year. Year-to-date net income was a loss of $55.6 million, compared to last year’s gain of $26.1 million.

Owens & Minor (OMI)

Senior VP and general counsel Grace Denttartog gave a gift of 1,510 shares of common stock on Oct. 9. She sold 2,751 shares at $36.36 per share on Nov. 9 for a total of $100,026. She now owns 106,717 directly owned shares.

Universal Corp. (UVV)

The tobacco processor reported its earnings for the quarter that ended Sept. 30. Revenues totaled $456.3 million, down from $464.1 million the same quarter of 2014. Revenues for the six-month period that ended Sept. 30 reached $731.8 million, compared to $735.5 million last year. Net income for the quarter totaled $25 million, up from $15 million the same quarter last year. Six-month revenues totaled $16.5 million, up from $15.7 million the same timeframe last year.

WestRock (WRK)

The packaging giant reported its fourth quarter earnings for its fiscal year that ended Sept. 30. Net sales totaled $3.8 billion, up from $2.6 billion the same quarter last year. Net sales for the year totaled $11.3 billion, compared to $9.8 billion in FY14. Net income for the quarter, attributable to common stockholders, totaled $115.8 million, down from $153.9 million the same three months of 2014. Net income for the year totaled $507.1 million, up from $479.7 million last year.
