$1M office deal lands Carytown firm in Deep Run

After more than a half-century in Carytown, a windows and doors company is installing itself in Henrico County.

Richmond Window Corp. is moving in August to 3895 Deep Rock Road near the Deep Run office complex. Owner Page Ewell paid $987,000 for the 9,300-square-foot office and warehouse. He bought the property this month through PIII LLC.

“I wanted a better work flow,” Ewell said of the reasons for moving. “I wanted a nice open feel.”

Ewell said the company, which also goes by Renewal by Andersen, has occupied 2810 W. Cary St. since 1954, when the business got its start as a residential home improvement firm. Ewell’s father joined the company about a decade later and then bought it in 1972.

Ewell, 53, worked at the company while attending the University of Richmond, and ran a branch office in Virginia Beach for three years. He took over in 1996 and acquired the 6,000 square feet on West Cary Street when his father died in 2007. The Carytown building is for sale, though Ewell has not set an asking price.

Ewell said there wasn’t enough room in the Carytown building for his 50 full- and part-time workers. The company has grown steadily in the past decade, he said.

In 2000, Richmond Window co-branded itself as Renewal by Andersen and focused its operations on exclusively selling Renewal by Andersen doors and windows. The business doesn’t carry any inventory because all its products are custom-made in Minnesota.

Ewell said he had hoped to keep Richmond Window in the city, but the new office near Gaskins Road is close to major roads, which will help workers get to Charlottesville.

“All the transportation issues are solved,” he said.

Commonwealth Commercial brokers Russell Wyatt and Evan Ocheltree represented the seller, HC Nichols LLC, in the sale. CBRE | Richmond brokers Wood Thornton and Rob Dirom represented Richmond Window.

The building was previously occupied by Liebert Corp., a manufacturer’s sales office for Emerson Network Power that moved to 1011 Technology Park Drive, and Industrial Controls, a manufacturer’s representative that moved to 8213 Hermitage Road.

Richmond Window’s new office layout is being designed by JLL.
