A lighting, rug and furnishings seller has fully powered up its recently constructed headquarters, freeing up some prime real estate near The Diamond in the process.
Shades of Light completed its move in February to 14001 Justice Road in Sommerville Industrial Park in Chesterfield, where a new 83,000-square-foot office and distribution center was built. It also manufactures lamps, lamp shades and copper fixtures on site.
Co-owner Bryan Johnson said the company vacated its back offices at its still-open storefront at 4924 W. Broad St. near Willow Lawn. It also left behind a 27,700-square-foot warehouse at Lanvale Avenue, across North Boulevard from The Diamond.
The Lanvale Avenue property had been available for lease and just went on the market for sale last week with an asking price of $885,000. Brokers Cheryl Hamm and David Feibish of Joyner Commercial are handling the listing.
Construction on the Chesterfield headquarters began in summer 2015 and concluded in February, led by B.K. Katherman of Katherman & Co. The architect was Balzer and Associates. An LLC controlled by Johnson and Shades of Light co-owner Chris Menasco bought the 7.2 acres at 14001 Justice Road in February for $5.7 million.
Out of Shades of Light’s 92 employees, more than 70 work out of the new office and warehouse in Chesterfield.
The firm sells furnishings online, as well as in stores on West Broad Street, at 9912 Midlothian Turnpike and in Virginia Beach.
