17 Allen & Allen Attorneys Named to 2019 Super Lawyers

The Allen Law Firm is pleased to announce that 17 attorneys have been named to the 2019 Super Lawyers list. Those attorneys include Edward L. Allen; James “Jamie” Kessel; Malcolm P. McConnell; Paul D. Hux; Bridget N. Long; Derrick L. Walker; P. Christopher Guedri; W. Coleman Allen, Jr.; Courtney A. Van Winkle; Christopher J. Toepp; David M. Irvine; Robert C.T. Reed; and Scott D. Fitzgerald. Attorneys Ashley T. Davis; J. David Douthit; and R. Clayton Allen are first time additions to the list.

Additionally, for the fourth consecutive year, Jason W. Konvicka was chosen for the Top 10 list.

“I am so humbled to be included once again on the Top 10 list of Virginia lawyers in Super Lawyers,” says Konvicka. “To be included among so many of my colleagues is a great honor for me and for the Allen Law Firm.”

Konvicka, a Richmond attorney and firm partner, has appeared on the Virginia Super Lawyers Top 10 List since 2016. He has also been included among the Richmond Top 50 since 2014. Konvicka has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2009, and was named the 2018 Lawyer of the Year – Plaintiffs Personal Injury by the publication. He is AV Rated by Martindale Hubbell and is a Certified Civil Trial Advocate. He has successfully argued before the Virginia Supreme Court and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Edward L. Allen, Fredericksburg attorney and firm president, has been chosen to the Virginia Super Lawyers Top 50 List since 2017. He is a former president of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and has been named to Best Lawyers in America since 2010.

James “Jamie” Kessel, an attorney in the Richmond office, has been chosen to the Virginia Super Lawyers Top 50 list since 2015. Previously, he was named a Rising Star by Virginia Super Lawyers from 2010 – 2012. He has made Virginia Business Magazine’s list of Legal Elite for seven years.

Malcolm P. “Mic” McConnell, a Richmond attorney and firm partner, has been chosen to the Virginia Super Lawyers Top 50 list since 2006. Mic, who leads the firm’s medical malpractice litigation team, was also named the Lawyer of the Year for Medical Malpractice Law – Plaintiffs in Richmond by Best Lawyers in America in 2019. He has won numerous “top ten” verdicts in Virginia.

Paul Hux, an attorney and managing partner for the Chesterfield office, has been included on the Virginia Super Lawyers list since 2010. His accomplishments in and out of the courtroom include multi-million dollar results for his clients.

Bridget N. Long, Petersburg attorney and firm partner, has been included on the Virginia Super Lawyers list since 2008. She is currently one of four vice presidents of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA), and a past president of the Young Trial Lawyers Section. She has served on the VTLA Board of Governors since 2008 and currently serves as a Women’s Caucus representative to the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice.

Derrick L. Walker, a Richmond attorney, has been included on the Virginia Super Lawyers list since 2007.  He was also recognized in the 2019 edition of Best Lawyers in America in the practice area of Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs. Walker served as the 2018 Chair of the Minority Caucus for the American Association for Justice.

  1. Christopher Guedri, a Richmond attorney, has been included on the Virginia Super Lawyers list since 2006. He was named “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers in America in the Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs in 2015, and has been listed in the “Legal Elite Best Lawyers” by Virginia Business Magazine for five years.
  2. Coleman Allen, Jr., a Richmond attorney and firm partner, who is officially retired as of 2019, has been included on the Virginia Super Lawyers list since 2006. He has been named to Best Lawyers in America since 1995. Coleman has also served as president for the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.

Courtney A. Van Winkle, a Richmond attorney and firm partner, has been included on the Virginia Super Lawyers list since 2015. In 2019, she was named to Best Lawyers in America and also to the 2019 list of Influential Women in Law by Virginia Lawyers Weekly.

Christopher J. Toepp, a Richmond attorney, has been included in the Virginia Super Lawyers list since 2017. He was previously listed as a Rising Star in 2016. Chris was named to Legal Elite from Virginia Business Magazine from 2014 to 2018, and was voted Reader’s Choice for Top Lawyers in 2015 by the Richmond Times Dispatch.

David M. Irvine, a Charlottesville attorney, has been named a “Rising Star” by Virginia Super Lawyers since 2014. He joins Richmond attorneys Robert C.T. Reed, who has been named a “Rising Star” since 2015, and Scott D. Fitzgerald, who has been named a “Rising Star” since 2018.
