A high-profile name in the orbit of former President Donald Trump recently unloaded his Richmond residence.
Rick Gates, the former Trump campaign adviser who was a key witness in the federal probe into alleged Russian influence on the 2016 U.S. election, sold his home at 206 Virginia Ave. in the city’s West End for $3.15 million.
The off-market deal closed quietly on Nov. 9, city property records show. Because it was off-market, the sale was not reflected in the regional multiple listing service typically used by area real estate agents.
It ended up ranking as the second-priciest home sale in the Richmond area last year.
The buyers of the 6,900-square-foot house in the Westmoreland Place neighborhood are listed in property records as Matthew and Taryn White, a local couple relocating from nearby Windsor Farms. Matthew is a managing director at Harris Williams, an M&A investment bank based in Richmond. Taryn is a nutritionist at locally-based GreenMind.
Gates had owned the house since 2007, when it was purchased for $2.15 million. The 1.5-acre property was most recently assessed by the city at just under $2.5 million.
Built in 1920, the two-story house totals five bedrooms, five bathrooms and two half-baths. The property includes an inground pool and attached garage and was renovated in 1992, according to data on Realtor.com.
The sale came two years after Gates, 49, was sentenced to 45 days in jail and three years of probation after pleading guilty to conspiracy charges in the special counsel probe into Russian influence on the 2016 election.
Gates, a deputy adviser to the 2016 Trump campaign, struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors that made him a key witness in the investigation. He has since written a book about his experiences and launched a consulting firm that listed the Virginia Avenue residence as its principal office. The firm, Tungsten LLC, is now listed with the State Corporation Commission as inactive.
A Fort Lee native and William & Mary alum, Gates continues to call Richmond home. Social media profiles for Gates continued to list Richmond as his location as of Monday.
Gates listed the house with Rebecca Winters with Shaheen, Ruth, Martin & Fonville Real Estate. SRMF’s Katherine Hill represented the Whites in the deal.
Calls to both agents were not returned Monday.
