From within its new headquarters, a local granite fabrication and installation company hopes to be the cornerstone of a home-improvement hub in Powhatan.
Classic Granite & Marble completed its move several weeks ago into its new facility at 1355 Anderson Highway, an 82,000-square-foot building that’s home to the company’s administrative offices, showroom, production and warehouse.
The warehouse and fabrication area makes up about 50,500 square feet of the facility. The showroom is about 7,000 square feet, and the offices are roughly 12,000 square feet.
Rounding out the facility is about 12,500 square feet set aside for tenants. Founder Tony Kilic said he hoped to attract companies in similar industries to create a one-stop shop to help attract customers. No tenants had signed up for space at Classic Granite’s building as of late June.
“I would like to attract home improvement companies to this property – a local flooring company, a local roofing company, a local paint company, etc. – but am open to other possibilities as well,” Kilic said.
He said plans were already in the works to add another 20,000 square feet of production and warehouse space to the facility.
The company has 115 employees with plans to hire more.
CGM’s final investment in the facility came to $14.5 million, a figure that includes the acquisition of the facility’s 25-acre site in Powhatan near the Chesterfield line. The company spent $2.1 million to buy the land in 2018.

Kilic credited the county for its help in laying the groundwork for the facility’s
construction, though he said permitting posed the main barrier to the project and contributed to the facility’s delayed opening, which was originally slated for early 2020.
“As challenging as it was to put this project together, we had to go through rezoning and amend the height of the building. (Powhatan Assistant County Administrator Bret Schardein) has played a critical role during this whole project to help us out.”
Kilic said he has plans to build leasable warehouse space and additional retail storefronts on adjacent property that the company acquired in 2020. That 10-acre site, which it bought for $1.2 million, is currently home to a storage facility that will be eventually demolished.
CGM continues to own its former 35,000-square-foot headquarters at 14301 Justice Road in Midlothian. The company is leasing 19,000 square feet of that facility to DiversiTech, a Georgia-based manufacturer and supplier for the HVAC, automotive retail and consumer hardware sectors and other industries. CGM doesn’t plan to sell the property.
The company contracts with 14 Home Depots and six Costcos in Central Virginia to provide manufacturing and installation of stone surfaces for those stores. The company is rolling out a similar arrangement with 14 Lowe’s stores in the region, and it plans to expand into North Carolina within the next couple years.
“We worked really hard to build a name brand and we’re very strong in Central Virginia,” Kilic said.
