Starbucks is yet again cashing in on the Richmond area’s stock of shuttered bank branches.
The Seattle, Washington-based coffee giant is planning to convert the former Wells Fargo branch at 7101 W. Broad St. into a coffee shop, according to a building permit filed with Henrico County.
The vacant building, near Glenside Drive, features a drive-thru that Starbucks plans to use. The property is next to a Waffle House and across the street from the West Broad Honda dealership.
It’s unclear when the Starbucks is scheduled to open. The company didn’t respond to a request for comment.
Wells Fargo shuttered the branch in 2019. The site was formerly an outpost of Wachovia, which was absorbed by Wells Fargo in 2008.
The property is one of at least three shuttered bank locations in the region where Starbucks has either recently opened a cafe or is planning to do so.
In June, the coffee chain opened a cafe at 6201 River Road in a former BB&T bank branch at the River Road Shopping Center, and closed its store that operated across the street at 5001 Huguenot Road. A Stella’s Grocery is planning to open a neighborhood market in that storefront.
In Chesterfield County, Starbucks is working on a new cafe in the former Virginia Commonwealth Bank branch at 1118 Courthouse Road.
The company also is planning to open a cafe on the West Cary Street side of the Carytown Exchange retail center in the city.

Funny that is what Wells Fargo staff said they thought would replace them when it closed years ago and when the ATM moved to in front of the gym, I thought it was really coming to fruition. Glad to see the new use is finally coming into the place. All the staffers at MSV (miss then from the Bookbindery days) will be happy!
What about the proposed Starbucks in Powhatan?
