Drive-thru coffee chain brews up expansion in Chesterfield County

A chain of to-go coffee spots has its eye on Chesterfield, and has indicated interest in at least two locations in the county.

7 Brew Coffee, which has more than 100 locations nationwide, is weighing a spot near Chesterfield Towne Center for a new store and also has plans to build a location in Midlothian, according to documents filed with the county.

The company’s locations are drive-thru-only and don’t offer indoor seating for customers. The chain, so named for the number of coffee drinks it offered when it first launched, also sells teas, smoothies and milkshakes in addition to hot and iced coffee.

The site near Chesterfield Towne Center that has caught the company’s eye is 11601 Midlothian Turnpike, where it would renovate the existing building. The company had not filed a site plan for the property as of Wednesday, but online Chesterfield records show 7 Brew requested a meeting with county staff as a preliminary step that comes before submitting a plan.

That building formerly was occupied by T-Mobile. Last year, Green Leaf Medical had planned to open a marijuana dispensary there before the county rejected a building permit request tied to the project.

The site in the county that 7 Brew is eyeing to build on is at 101 Le Gordon Drive in Midlothian, according to a site plan. The site is at the corner of Le Gordon Drive and Midlothian Turnpike and is across the street from the Kroger-anchored Ivymont Square Shopping Center.

In addition to a drive-thru, the 500-square-foot store would have a walk-up window and outdoor seating, the site plan shows.

It’s unclear when 7 Brew anticipates it will be operational in Chesterfield. The company didn’t respond to requests for comment for this article.

The Arkansas-based coffee chain lists lists more than 120 locations on its website but none in the Richmond region. Its first Virginia location, in Newport News, opened in July.

In other Richmond-area coffee scene moves, Hanover-based Rivers Edge Coffee Co. is expanding in the region. Seattle coffee giant Starbucks is planning a new location in a former bank branch on West Broad Street in Henrico.

Now maybe I could start something to compete with Starbucks down here in the Tri Cities area.

These guys are drive thru only, Starbucks is moving to all locations with a Drive-thru option, I think Sheets and Wawa are adding Drive- I’d love to see some info on the net loss of indoor seating caused by all the love for Drive-thru.

Well I have never been a fan of drive thru, but the last few years made me personally start hating them. It’s pretty much way faster to go inside to order and walk out. Had several times where I’m walking out and the same cars I saw towards the end of the line still haven’t ordered…

FYI been to these are NOT traditional drive thru as no pick window. You park in one of two lanes and they come out the double door to your car. They do seem to take more time in preparing the coffee. They are not competition when in most metro areas you are talking 5 or so locations per million people!

I’ll get my coffee at McDonalds where it’s just as good, cheaper, and quicker. When you’re a senior, it’s especially good. Do the other stores give senior discounts?
