One hundred thousand dollars separated nearly all of the region’s top five home sales in September, save for a Mooreland Farms house that came out on top by that margin plus another $75,000.

The 6,100-square-foot house at 401 S. Mooreland Road was the month’s top sale at $2.175 million, selling above its July 3 listing of $1.99 million. It sold Sept. 15 after going under contract July 9, a week after it was listed and two days after showings started.

Henrico County property records list the buyers as Charles and Katherine Smith. They were represented by Long & Foster agent Charley Smith.

It isn’t clear whether the agent is related to the buyers. Charley Smith said he couldn’t discuss the transaction when reached by phone Tuesday.

The sellers were Robert Woods and Mary Anne Gillespie, who bought the 25-year-old house in 2017 for $1.36 million. They were represented by Richard Bower with Joyner Fine Properties.

The county assessed the 0.7-acre property this year at $1.84 million.

The kitchen opens to a dining area and a family room and sunroom.

Totaling five bedrooms and 5½ bathrooms, the brick colonial was built in 1998 by area builder Clyde Gauldin, according to Smith’s listing.

The two-story house includes three fireplaces, an office, sunroom, walk-up attic and primary bedroom with a sitting room and renovated bathroom. The property also has a three-car garage and columned rear porch with Brazilian walnut flooring and a beamed and beadboard ceiling.
