A national chain of chicken-wing joints is increasing the size of its local flock with a new location outside Chester.
Wingstop has a new outpost in the works at 10730 Iron Bridge Road, where the chain is taking over a former Pet Valu storefront in the Ironbridge Marketplace shopping center.
It’s expected to open in the first quarter of 2024, a Wingstop spokesperson confirmed last week.
The new Iron Bridge restaurant will be run by Utah-based franchise restaurant group Sizzling Platter, according to a building permit filed with Chesterfield.
Sizzling Platter operates more than 450 Little Caesars pizza shops in the United States and Mexico, as well as more than 100 Wingstops, more than 90 Jambas (a bowl and smoothie concept), more than 20 Dunkin’ locations, and small numbers of several other brands such as Jersey Mike’s and Red Robin, per its website.
For the Iron Bridge Wingstop, the company is setting up shop in a 2,800-square-foot space left vacant by Pet Valu, which departed that storefront and the rest of its seven-unit footprint in the Richmond market as part of a nationwide shuttering of its brick-and-mortar business that was announced in late 2020.
The new restaurant appears to be Wingstop’s fifth in the region. It currently has two locations in Chesterfield and two locations in Henrico, per the company’s website.
Another chain to take over former Pet Valu spaces is Fredericksburg-based pet store Dog Krazy, which operates in former locations in Gayton Crossing and Stony Point Village.
