A neighbor of Agecroft Hall led the pack of the priciest home sales in the region in December, with a price that made it the year’s fifth-highest sale two weeks before 2023 came to a close.
The 9,400-square-foot house at 304 Long Lane, across from the relocated 15th-century Tudor mansion in Windsor Farms, sold Dec. 15 for its asking price of $4.3 million.
The six-bedroom home on a 2-acre lot was listed in mid-October and went under contract the following week. Margaret Wade with Long & Foster had the listing for the sellers, listed in city property records as Thomas and Alice Cooper.
The buyers, Casey and Ashley Tischer, were represented by Maria Brent with The Steele Group | Sotheby’s International Realty. Casey Tischer is a principal and co-founder of Freehold Capital Management, a Boston-based real estate investment firm with an office in Scott’s Addition.
Brent said the Tischers weren’t looking to make a move but were motivated by the listing when it hit the market.
“My clients are really excited and looking forward to moving in,” Brent said. “There was a lot of interest, and my clients were ready to roll and super excited to find something that was going to work for them.”
The Tischers’ all-cash purchase competed with other offers on the home, which Wade said received interest from local and out-of-town prospective buyers.
“We liked the terms of the one we (accepted),” Wade said. “It was a clean offer, and strong. That was the winning factor.”
Built in 1956 and renovated in 1999, the two-story Cape Cod was further renovated after the Coopers bought it in 2013 for $1.82 million. Wade said the renovations and the lot’s size and location helped sell the home.
“The house is meticulously renovated and maintained. It was just perfect,” Wade said. “I think it’s one of the nicest listings that I’ve ever had, as far as being completely buttoned-up. And the property is so pretty. I think it’s unusual to find a 2-acre property in the city.”
With six bathrooms and two half-baths, the three-level brick-and-slate house has a primary suite on the ground floor. The walk-out lower level with French doors includes a fireplace, bar, game area, home theater and exercise room with sauna.
A detached three-car garage and pool were installed during the earlier renovations, and the property includes a covered porch with grilling patio and outdoor fireplace. The garage also has room for a car lift and has a finished room above.
The property was assessed by the city this year at $2.5 million. The $4.3 million sale was the fifth-highest in the region in 2023.
Wade also had the listing for December’s No. 2 sale: 5324 Cary Street Road, which sold Dec. 14 for $3 million. Wade represented sellers Turner and Catherine Bredrup, who bought the 5,500-square-foot house in 2002 for $940,000. Turner Bredrup is an adviser with investment bank Harris Williams. Steele Group’s Susan Jones represented the buyer, who purchased the home through an LLC.
There was a tie for the month’s third-highest sale: 4909 Cary Street Road and 7600 Hill Drive, which both sold for $2.85 million. Doug Dorsey with Shaheen, Ruth, Martin & Fonville Real Estate had the Cary Street Road listing, and Steele Group’s Jason Burford represented the buyers. SRMF’s Scott Ruth and Scott Shaheen had the Hill Drive listing, and Kathryn Oti of Rashkind Saunders & Co. represented the buyers.
Rounding out the top five sales for December, according to the Central Virginia Regional Multiple Listing Service, was 3810 Hadensville Fife Road, a 1700s-era Cape Cod on 300-plus acres in Hadensville in Goochland County. The property sold for $2.75 million to a pair of LLCs based in Pennsylvania. Chelsea Newcomb with Lake and Country Realty represented the buyer, and Justin Wiley with Wiley Real Estate represented the seller.

The buyers of this beauty are truly blessed! Congratulations to all.
