Jennifer Moschetti v. Nixon Peabody, LLP
Plaintiff, who January 2020-March 22, 2021, was lead investigator for the Virginia Office of the Inspector General’s (OSIG) investigation of the Virginia Parole Board, says when she submitted a detailed 14-page draft report describing numerous examples of alleged violations of policy and law by the Board, she set in motion a chain of events that exposed serious Board misconduct, but she became the scapegoat for having shined a light on the misconduct and was investigated, fired and defamed by various governmental employees. Plaintiff says after she was fired, a party-driven effort by the then-governor and like-minded legislators procured an “investigation” into the Board scandal led by defendant that was designed to try to professionally discredit plaintiff and to blame her for the misconduct of the Board. Plaintiff says defendant made numerous false statements and accusations against her that were later debunked, and alleges defamation, saying the Nixon Peabody report concerning policies and procedures employed by OSIG in its investigation and issued on/about June 14, 2021, substantially harmed her reputation and her ability to obtain employment.
