A long-vacant space at Stony Point Village is getting a makeover.
Cosmetics retailer Sephora last week inked a lease for a new store at the Trader Joe’s-anchored shopping center in Bon Air.
It would be Sephora’s first standalone location south of the river. The company also operates a store at Short Pump Town Center in western Henrico and has a presence in regional Kohl’s locations.
Sephora is planning to open in the B suite of 3002 Stony Point Road. It’ll be between the Dog Krazy pet supply store and a Gelati Celesti ice cream shop.
Thalhimer broker Jim Ashby, who handles leasing at Stony Point Village, confirmed the Sephora lease.
Sephora’s 5,800-square-foot space accounts for half of a larger storefront that was divided earlier this year after being vacant for at least seven or eight years, Ashby said. Dog Krazy is in the other half, after relocating from its previous location elsewhere in Stony Point Village.
The Sephora store’s anticipated opening date and other details were unavailable. Sephora didn’t respond to requests for comment.
Other tenants at the center include Planet Fitness and Good Foods Grocery. The owners of Tazza Kitchen are planning to open a new restaurant called The Granite Grill & Bar at the center early next year.
Sephora’s Short Pump Town Center store is on the mall’s first level near Macy’s. It also operates its store-within-a-store concept in five Kohl’s department stores in the region, according to Sephora’s website. It wasn’t clear whether Sephora’s upcoming Bon Air store would be its seventh local store or a relocation of an existing outpost.

Kohl stores aren’t anywhere the same customers ( and don’t have nearly the product) of a stand alone store. The in-store locations are only about a quarter of the standalone and part of a separate deal with Kohls; they were once in JCP stores. I can’t imagine they’re abandoning Short Pump.
