Lenses of a different sort will soon be on sale at a Carytown storefront that recently went dark.
Warby Parker is planning to open a location in the former Richmond Camera space at 3128 W. Cary St. in the Cary Court shopping center.
The store is expected to open early next year, Warby Parker spokeswoman Sydney Mauro said.
In addition to selling prescription eyeglasses and accessories, most Warby Parker stores also offer on-site eye exams. Mauro said it has yet to determine whether exams will be offered at the Carytown outpost.
The Carytown store would be the company’s second in the Richmond area, joining one at Short Pump Town Center that opened in October 2021.
Based in New York, Warby Parker was founded in 2010 as an online retailer. It opened its first physical store in 2013 and has since opened more than 250 locations in the U.S. and Canada, its website states.
The Carytown storefront came available in recent weeks when Richmond Camera shuttered the longtime location to consolidate its operations at its Chesterfield headquarters, where it continues to run its wholesale professional photography operations. The Carytown store was its last retail location.
In other Carytown news, restaurant Can Can Brasserie announced plans to be sold to new ownership and Japanese grocery store Tokyo Market recently relocated within the neighborhood.

Need Supply Company used to have a Warby Parker section. I wonder if their success there contributed to them opening a standalone store.
Have used WP in Short Pump for the last three pairs of my son’s glasses. Wonderful customer service. Can’t say enough good things.
