Club Champions League extended its contract with the county through 2022. The contract – the second multiyear agreement between the parties – will bring four of CCL’s soccer events to River City Sportsplex and Horner Park. Described in a release as the largest club-based youth soccer league in the U.S., CCL has hosted as many as five events in Chesterfield in a single year, including the College Showcase Series and the Fall Festival. The first event under the contract extension will be the CCL February College Showcase in early 2020.

Goochland
The county’s economic development department has been restructured ahead of an update to the county’s Economic Development Strategic Plan, last updated in 2012. The strategic plan update will be available for public review in early summer.
As a result of the restructuring, tourism efforts will be overseen by the county’s parks and recreation department. The restructuring also includes an enhanced social media presence and the promotion of 14-year employee Sara Worley to economic development coordinator, a job title she shares with new hire Casey Verburg. Worley will focus on existing business retention and expansion, while Verburg will focus on new business attraction. Verburg brings over 11 years of experience in economic development on a municipal and county level in North Carolina.

Construction is underway on Atlee Library after a groundbreaking ceremony held May 15. The library will be located at the corner of U.S. Route 301 and Rutlandshire Drive, and is scheduled to open in summer 2020.
