City Council to vote on use of surplus budget funds
The City Council will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. Oct. 27, during which it will vote on a resolution to assign $1.4 million in surplus funds to several projects. Full agenda.
If the resolution is approved as written, up to $500,000 would be earmarked for the city’s coronavirus contingency fund. Up to $780,000 would be assigned to the OPEB Trust Fund to provide post-employment benefits to former city employees and their beneficiaries. A maximum of $110,000 would go toward an equity study and training.
The funds under consideration represent 10 percent of the total surplus of $13.9 million for fiscal year 2019-2020. A public hearing will be held prior to the vote.
Henrico supervisors to consider issuing $75M in bonds for Westminster Canterbury project, $7.2M contract for fire station
The Henrico County Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 27. Full agenda.
The board will weigh whether to approve the issuance of $75 million in bonds by the economic development authority to Westminster Canterbury Corp. for improvements to the Westminster Canterbury retirement community. The bonds would finance a project for assisted living and memory support facilities and other improvements.
Supervisors will also vote on whether to award a $7.2 million contract to Ritchie-Curbow Construction Co. for the construction of the Staples Mill Firehouse 20, located at 8521 Willis Road. Construction is scheduled to start in November, and the facility is expected to be operational in February 2022.
Residential development project advances in Chesterfield
The Chesterfield County Planning Commission gave the green light last week to a rezoning request tied to a single-family residential development with a maximum of 113 lots on 45 acres of property. The project area is north of Chesterbrook Farms and west of Womack Road. The Board of Supervisors will consider the request at a future meeting.
Goochland increases grant amounts in business support program
Goochland has increased the maximum award amounts in its Goochland Back to Business grant program. Grants, which are based on employee headcount and documented expenses, are now $10,000 to $20,000:
• Companies with one to 25 employees: Up to $10,000.
• Companies with 26 to 49 employees: Up to $16,000.
• Companies with 50 to 150 employees: Up to $20,000.
Eligible expenses include but aren’t limited to signage, personal protective equipment, takeout containers, sneeze guards and other supplies purchased as part of a change in operations.
The grant program is funded by CARES Act funding and is intended to help businesses within the county reimburse costs associated with compliance with state reopening requirements.
