A downtown pharmacy is about to write its last prescription.

CVS plans to permanently close its store at 1007 E. Main St. in mid-November, a company spokesman confirmed Thursday.

The company didn’t elaborate on why it will vacate the 3,900-square-foot space it has occupied for years.

“The closure of this store is not a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our employees. In fact, every effort will be made to place them into comparable roles at other CVS locations nearby,” the spokesman said in a statement.

The company didn’t specify how many employees work at the store nor how many of them will secure new employment with CVS.

The store’s prescriptions will be moved to a CVS at 2400 E. Main St. in Shockoe Bottom.

CVS has five stores within the city limits, including the location slated to be closed, per the company’s website.

Crenshaw Singleton Properties is CVS’s landlord at the Main Street store. The company couldn’t be reached for comment.
