Performance Food Group is planning to trade Henrico for Hanover for its new regional distribution center.

The Goochland-based foods distribution giant announced plans Thursday to build an $80.2 million regional sales and distribution facility at Cardinal Commerce Center, an industrial park just south of Ashland at the intersection of Route 1 and Cedar Lane.

The new 325,000-square-foot facility will replace the company’s existing similarly-sized regional distribution center at 7420 Ranco Road in Henrico County, Performance Food Group spokeswoman Trisha Meade said.

The plan is to move into the new facility in June 2023. The ground breaking on the Hanover project is slated for March, Meade said. The company will be leasing the building in a build-to-suit deal. The governor’s office announced the project Thursday.

Indianapolis-based Scannell Properties is the industrial park’s developer.

The project architect is GMA Architects. ARCO Construction Co. is the general contractor.

PFG plans to hire more than 100 workers for the facility, and they will be joined by the folks at the Ranco Road facility.

“We anticipate hiring 125 associates, in addition to the associates who will move from our current Performance Foodservice facility on Ranco Road in Henrico County,” Meade said in an email Thursday. “With the increased capacity of this facility, we anticipate hiring selectors and truck drivers, as well as some administration, purchasing and operational roles.”

The facility’s service area will consist of Virginia and parts of North Carolina, West Virginia and Maryland.

The company will be able to take advantage of Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which supports employee recruitment and training. PFG also is eligible for benefits from the Major Business Facility Job Tax Credit program.

Performance Food Group has more than 150 facilities in the United States and Canada.

The publicly traded company reported net sales of $10.4 billion and a net income of $4.7 million in its most recent quarter.
