Coqui Cyclery says it intends to reopen after abruptly closing its doors several weeks ago and leaving customers in the dark.
In a statement posted to the South Richmond bike shop’s Facebook page Thursday afternoon, the store stated that it planned to resume business in mid-January and that customers’ items left in its possession would be returned.
“All customer products and bicycles are safe and will be returned to clients promptly upon reopening. We have served our community faithfully for 12 years and we wish to do so for years to come,” the post stated. “We truly do apologize to our community of clients and friends for any stress or inconvenience that this 25 day business closure has caused.”
The company didn’t elaborate in the Facebook post on what caused the disruption to its operations, other than to say that the closing was “unavoidable and unfortunate.”
Store owner Clint Kronenberger didn’t respond to a request for further comment Thursday afternoon.
The announcement came amid efforts by customers in recent weeks to retrieve bikes and parts they ordered through or left with the Forest Hill bike shop before it shuttered. Multiple customers have told BizSense or posted to social media about the store’s lack of recent communication with them regarding orders or service on their bikes.
Coqui’s shuttering coincides with a lawsuit filed in December against the store by California-based bike-maker Giant Bicycles USA, which claims the Richmond shop owes it $144,000 for unpaid goods.
Coqui is located at 3416 Semmes Ave., where it first opened in 2012. The store sells bikes and accessories and also services bikes. In addition to Giant, the store also carries such brands as Liv, All-City and Surly.

Sorry folk but we have seen this story before sound like they are moving to bankruptcy.
I think there needs to be an update on this story.
Considering they never opened after Dec 10th and have not been open or posted since then I hope so. It is now mid January (and 11 days since article) and no word on social. Anyone know if they opened the store this week?
