Bon Secours is relocating and renaming a primary care practice it has operated for several years in Chester.

The health system is planning to move its Briggs Road Family Medicine practice to a larger location at 281 E. Hundred Road, in the River’s Bend South retail center.

The practice is currently situated about four miles away at 12901 Briggs Road. With the move, the practice will be renamed Rivers Bend Family Medicine.

The move is anticipated to be completed by early June, and Bon Secours plans to renovate the space, which previously housed a medical office.

Motivating the change is a desire for a larger space that is in a more prominent spot, Bon Secours spokeswoman Jenna Green said in an email last week.

“The relocation of the practice is due to a number of factors, however, the primary reasons are the need for an increased practice size that includes renovation and allows for future practice expansion,” Green said. “Additionally, the new location will provide the opportunity to operate in an established commercial shopping area, helping promote increased accessibility and safety for our patients.”

Bon Secours has leased a 7,000-square-foot space in River’s Bend South. The new location is a few hundred square feet larger than the Briggs Road space, which is a standalone 6,400-square-foot building. Bon Secours has operated the practice there since January 2020.

Planned modifications to the River’s Bend space include the creation of additional physician offices and exam rooms, and  installation of a new X-ray machine. Bon Secours declined to comment on the anticipated cost of the renovations.

Bon Secours plans to increase the practice’s number of providers from three to five, with the two new physicians to be brought aboard in the fall, Green said.

The relocated practice also will operate on a weekly basis as a satellite office for the health system’s diabetes education, urology, and pediatric gastroenterology and endocrinology services.

The retail center where the practice will relocate is across East Hundred Road (Route 10) from the Food Lion-anchored River’s Bend on the James shopping center.

In other south-of-the-river moves by Bon Secours, the health system recently got state regulatory approval for a surgery center slated for a site next to its St. Francis Medical Center hospital, also in Chesterfield. It also has plans for a new urgent care clinic at the Shops at Stratford Hills in South Richmond.
