A franchised chain of men’s health clinics has planted its first flag in the Richmond region – and has more in the works.

GameDay Men’s Health, which provides testosterone treatments and similar services intended to promote better health for men, opened a location last month at 4401 Waterfront Drive in Innsbrook.

The local clinic is owned by franchisees Zach Miller and Skyler Hallgren, frequent business partners who were on the hunt for their next venture when they landed on GameDay.

The chain pitches itself as a destination for men who experience fatigue, muscle loss, mood swings, decreased libido and other issues. Miller said he and Hallgren saw an opening to fill a gap for men who have health concerns and but feel let down by traditional medical offices.

“They don’t like going to the doctor. When they do, they don’t feel like they’re heard,” Miller said. “What we realized was there was a shortage of places for men to go to really feel heard and then get medically appropriate, medically supervised treatment to make sure they could feel their best and do it the right way.”

In addition to testosterone replacement therapy, the clinic also offers treatments for erectile dysfunction, weight-loss solutions and vitamin injections, among other services.

GameDay locations feature flat-screen TVs set to sports programming, leather seating, sports decor and refreshments, which are measures intended to make them more inviting to men compared to a doctor’s office, Miller said. The Innsbrook clinic has three exam rooms and an on-site lab.

GameDay is also designed to appeal to men who don’t frequently interact with the healthcare system at all, which Hallgren said helped draw the duo to the concept.

“We’re starting to get to our late 30s and we’re starting to think a little bit more about our own health, and also recognizing that we’re both classic men that never go to a doctor, never really seeking out healthcare and realizing it’s sort of an underserved patient cohort,” Hallgren said. “We’ve worked together for a long time in quite a few different businesses now, and we were looking for the next business to get into that really resonated with us personally.”

Miller and Hallgren had both been based on the West Coast, where they previously founded Redfora, an online retailer that sells disaster preparedness kits. They sold the San Francisco-based company in 2020 to a similar firm called Ethos Preparedness. The pair also co-founded Unsellable, which allows people to sell valueless NFTs for a tax write-off.

Miller moved to the local area several years ago to be closer to his family and Hallgren likewise relocated more recently.

The local franchisees declined to comment on the investment made to open the Innsbrook clinic. GameDay states on its website that a franchise costs between $227,000 and $413,000 to start.

GameDay has more than 130 clinics nationwide and is expected to have more than 200 locations open by the end of the year, according to Hallgren, adding that they have plans to open a Chesterfield location in the coming months.

Well, that information is certainly a downer, so to speak.

Thank you, BizSense, for the write-up! We’re excited to be part of the greater Richmond community and are dedicated to helping men across the region feel their best in a medically appropriate way. We truly appreciate the support and the warm welcome we’ve received. As part of our commitment to men’s health, we offer free Testosterone and PSA testing for all men, because we believe every man has the right to know their levels and prostate screening is essential as men age. We look forward to serving men across RVA and making a positive impact on our community!
