A $9 million construction project will begin next week at St. Joseph’s Villa after five years in the making.
The project will reconstruct the roads in and out of the busy children’s education and support facility, and will also create a park that St. Joseph’s is calling its Pedestrian Mall.
The first of the project’s six phases will begin Jan. 24. The entire job is scheduled to be completed by year’s end.
The goal of the project is to create safer environment for its service delivery and people visiting the non-profit’s 82-acre campus on Brook Road. The campus’ current roadways were no longer able to support the 450 vehicles that come in and out each day, according to Bruce Cauthen, St. Joseph’s vice president of public relations.
“Having so many cars running around presents a safety problem,” said Cauthen. “There was a need for a safer environment to help the individuals here make progress.”
The campus’ pedestrian mall will be a “park like setting” with walkways and a central garden.
Kjellstrom and Lee is the general contractor for the redevelopment of the campus. Subcontractors include Liesfield Contractor, Boschen Masonery, R.E. Price and others. Leo Burke Furniture, TrafficGuard Direct, and Reliance Guard Direct are the suppliers for the project.
