Life just got a little sweeter for almost 50 nonprofits in the Richmond area.
This month, the Community Foundation Serving Richmond & Central Virginia distributed $1.3 million in grants or scholarships to 46 local nonprofits and organizations.
The grants are part of TCF’s Strengthening Families – Strengthening Communities initiative and are funded by the Garland & Agnes Taylor Gray Foundation, the Sheltering Arms Fund and the Richmond Eye & Ear Foundation Fund.
TCF’s grants were divided into five categories: community and economic development, community enrichment, health promotion, strengthening nonprofits and promoting philanthropy, and youth and family development.
A total of $642,024 was given by TCF, $183,000 was given by Sheltering Arms, $184,000 was donated by Richmond Eye & Ear, and $351,000 came from the Garland & Agnes Taylor Gray Foundation.
Goodwill of Central Virginia received a $45,000 donation to support its goodChoice program in the community and economic development area.
Maymont Foundation took away the largest amount in the community enrichment area, a $30,000 grant to fund environmental education for children.
CrossOver Ministry received a $53,500 grant for its Free Vision Clinic Project in the health promotion area.
Also in the health sector, Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center received a $50,000 grant to provide free or reduced-fee testing and treatment for children with communication disorders.
Virginia Mentoring Partnership took away the largest grant in the strengthening nonprofits area with a $25,000 grant to support hardware and software upgrades for its programs.
In the youth and family development area, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond collected $50,000. Communities in Schools of Richmond also received a grant of $75,000.
The Museum of the Confederacy received a $250,000 grant, the largest from the Garland & Agnes Taylor Gray Foundation, to support the capital campaign over the next four years.
