After a four-month delay, a new restaurant is up and running in the Fan.
Jason Farag and his wife, Debbie, launched Mediterranean Bistro at 2301 W. Main St. just after Thanksgiving. The bistro was originally set to open in July, but Jason Farag said it took longer than expected to work through the city’s permitting process.
“This used to be a hair salon, and we were trying to do something completely different,” Farag said. “We had to take our case to the Board of Zoning Appeals, but we’re here now, and we’ve had a good reception so far.”
The 1,200-square-foot space seats 46 people, and Farag said the bistro was filled to capacity on opening night. Although this is the first Mediterranean Bistro in Richmond, Farag’s father operates several other locations in New York and Miami.
Farag said the bistro’s recipes, which have been in the family for more than 50 years, would help the restaurant stand out from other local eateries.
Farag financed the new restaurant with a $163,000 loan from his father.
Jason Farag is also involved in Times Square, a diner that opened in July on Fourth Street downtown but closed this fall. According to Richmond.com, Times Square is moving to Short Pump.

I can attest to their delicious menu – we tried this place a couple of weeks ago. Glad to have you in the neighborhood and good luck!
