On Wednesday evening, April 22nd, before a record crowd, the Greater Richmond Association for Commercial Real Estate (GRACRE) honored the area’s brightest real estate stars at the Eighth Annual Real Estate Stars Awards Gala. The signature event, which was held at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, has become the preeminent event honoring outstanding commercial real estate projects in the Metropolitan Richmond region. This year GRACRE presented awards in 10 categories. David Auman, GRACRE president and Mistress of Ceremonies Lucy Meade, Director of Marketing and Development for Venture Richmond, kept the Awards evening flowing with a combination of charm and humor. President of signature sponsor Hourigan Construction, Mark Hourigan presented the 2009 Project of the Year Award to The National Theater/Gibson’s Grill.

I read with interest all the categories and awards. I have seen a few of the projects and agree that they are appealing. I wonder what criteria decided the winners. Since I know everything, I’ll volunteer just a few ideas other than building type for the 2010 awards: Environmental Friendliness Energy Efficiency Tenant Safety Local External Traffic Impact Tenant & Visitor Ingress/Parking/Egress Elder and Child Friendly Neighborhood Compatibility Appropriate Interior & Exterior Signage Most important to all concerned, including prospective tenants, was the two-headed monster safely contained?
