Several Richmond-based law firms are increasing their headcounts with moves here in town and across the country.
Local law giant McGuireWoods has added a new partner and another office to its Los Angeles operation by merging with specialty litigation practice Integer Law Corp.
The deal has been in the works for several months and became effective April 1, said Terry Bagley, head of McGuireWood’s litigation practice. Four attorneys came over from Integer as part of the deal, including new partner Greg Evans.

“Several of our lawyers had had cases with Greg over the years and had developed a relationship with him and were extremely impressed with his capabilities,” Bagley said. “It’s sometimes difficult to find the right fit, but Greg is clearly the right fit. He’s not only a great lawyer; he’s a great person.”
McGuireWoods’ new office is in downtown L.A., and the firm’s other location, which employs 63 lawyers, is located in nearby Century City. This newest office is the firm’s 21st worldwide.
“Downtown L.A., like Century City, is an important place to be in Los Angeles, and several law firms have offices in both locations,” Bagley said. “We feel fortunate to be able to open a downtown office to complement our Century City office.”
Evans started Integer in 2010. He has represented clients including Sherwin-Williams, Nike and the Vodafone Group, the firm said in a release. He was also responsible for the litigation of the largest environmental bankruptcy case in U.S. history for Grupo Mexico.
As McGuireWoods expands its California operations, another firm in Richmond has drawn in several new attorneys and raised a new name to its masthead.

Locally based Spencer LLP has tacked on an additional partner to its name, becoming Shuford Spencer as of March 31.
Mark Shuford joined Chris Spencer’s firm in March of 2013, providing business litigation services. He took over day-to-day operation – Spencer frequently travels across the country to defend automobile manufacturers – and it was decided late last year to add Shuford to the firm’s name.
“It reflects my responsibilities and the diversity of the practice,” Shuford said.
The timing worked well, he said, because the firm has also experienced some additional growth, hiring two new associates over the last eight months. Another is set to join in late April, bringing the firm’s total to six associates and three partners.
“We’re already a first-tier firm, but we’re becoming a one-stop shop for business clients who have a variety of litigation needs,” Shuford said.
The growth is quickly filling Shuford Spencer’s 8,500-square-foot office in Paragon Place near West Broad Street and Glenside Drive.
“We’re already bursting at the seams in the office we have here, which is a great problem to have, and we love where we are, so we’ll deal with that logistical issue as we have to,” Shuford said.
And yet another downtown firm is pulling in new partners from other large practices. Williams Mullen has drawn in former Hunton & Williams attorney Marc Purintun as a partner in its employee benefits practice, as well as public finance and corporate law attorney Otto Konrad from Kaufman & Canoles.
Those moves came shortly after Williams Mullen made some changes to its highest ranks.
