Selective metabolic approach to increasing oral bioavailability of phenylephrine and other phenolic bioactivities
Patent No. 9,616,033
Presystemic metabolism in intestine of bioactives such as phenylephrine is avoided by administering a subject (human or animal) the bioactive (e.g., phenylephrine) in combination with one or more inhibitors of sulfation (e.g., sulfotransferase enzymes aka SULTs). This can also be enhanced be co-administering inhibitors of monoamine oxidases aka, MAOs, and uridine diphosphate glucoronysl transferases, aka UGTs. Preferably the inhibitors are GRAS compounds. The one or more inhibitor compounds inhibit the enzymes responsible for rapid presystemic metabolism, thus allowing the bioactives (e.g., phenylephrine) to be more readily absorbed intact into the circulatory system.

Fireman shield assembly
Patent No. 9,616,261
A fireman shield assembly for inhibiting a fireman from being struck by falling, burning debris includes a frame that may be positioned around a fireman. A shield is positioned over the frame. The covers the fireman when the fireman stands in the frame. Thus, the shield inhibits falling debris from striking the fireman.

Storage unit replacement using point-in-time snap copy
Patent No. 9,619,331
In one embodiment, I/O operations may be swapped from an original storage unit to a replacement storage unit in a manner which can reduce or eliminate delays caused by copying of data from the original storage unit to the replacement storage unit. A point-in-time snap copy relationship between the original storage unit and the replacement storage unit of storage locations is established and I/O operations are swapped from the original storage unit to the replacement storage unit. The I/O operations are resumed, accessing the replacement storage unit instead of the original storage unit in the input/output operations issued by the at least one host. Other aspects are described.

High speed poucher
Patent No. 9,623,988
An apparatus and methods for producing at extremely high production speeds small pouches filled with tobacco or other granular, powdered or solid content. An endless web substrate, with or without flavor film thereon, is formed into a tubular shape with a longitudinal seam. The tube is cut to individual lengths, and a procession of tubes is crimp-closed at one end, filled and crimp-closed at the other end to complete pouch production. During production, the seams formed at the crimped ends of the pouch are parallel to one another and the longitudinal seam of the pouch is midway between the sides of the pouch and orthogonal to the seams formed at the crimped ends of the pouch.

Discontinuous manufacturing process
Patent No. 9,623,645
A discontinuous manufacturing process performs at least one processing step on a web of material unwound from a roll, applies an indicator code to the unwound web of material for indicating at least one finishing step the web of material is to be subjected to, rewinds the web of material having the indicator code on another roll and then transfers the rewound web of material to a remote finishing facility. At the remote finishing facility, the web of material is again unwound and transported towards a finishing station. The indicator code on the web of material is read at the finishing station and then directed to a location where an appropriate finishing step is performed on the web of material prior to it being rewound on a roll to form a product roll.

Polyaxial pedicle screw locking and derotation instrument
Patent No. 9,622,794
A pedicle screw locking and derotation instrument, comprising: an elongate actuation mechanism, wherein the elongate actuation mechanism comprises a pair of elongate arms that are pivotably hinged to one another and comprise a pair of handle portions; and a pair of clamp members coupled to the elongate actuation mechanism and deployed by actuation of the elongate actuation mechanism; wherein each of the pair of clamp members comprises a retention portion configured to selectively and securely engage a threaded shaft of a pedicle screw and a portion configured to selectively and securely engage a head body of the pedicle screw, thereby holding the threaded shaft and the head body in rigid alignment; wherein each of the pair of clamp members comprises a retention portion that is configured to be selectively disposed beneath the head body of the pedicle screw and about the threaded shaft of the pedicle screw.

Method of encapsulating an electronic component
Patent No. 9,623,591
An encapsulated electronic assembly comprises an electronic component and a foamed thermoplastic shell disposed about the electronic component. The foamed thermoplastic shell is formed from a thermoplastic encapsulant comprising a thermoplastic resin and a filler and is foamed with a foaming agent. A method of encapsulating the electronic component to form the encapsulated electronic assembly is also provided. The method includes the steps of melting the thermoplastic encapsulant, foaming the thermoplastic encapsulant, and injection molding the foamed thermoplastic encapsulant about the electronic component to form the foamed thermoplastic shell.
