Richmond, VA – August 30, 2017 – KRS Holdings, Inc., a Richmond-based property management company that serves the Richmond and Tidewater regions, is continuing its collaboration with Business Connections at Virginia Commonweawlth University after a successful implementation in 2016.
KRS Holdings engaged the on-the-job training aspect of the Business Connections program to help individuals with disabilities explore clerical skills in an active workplace, and has worked with 10 individuals since the partnership began.
Virginia Commonwealth University Rehabilitation Research and Training Center works to promote stability and retention in employment for individuals with disabilities through supported employment services provided by the vendorship, Business Connections at Virginia Commonwealth University. KRS Holdings began their partnership with Business Connections in the summer of 2016. Jennifer Perrow, KRS Director of Operations, and Caitlin Cox, KRS Administrative Assistant, enthusiastically agreed to mentor individuals with disabilities within the office setting while training and engaging them in clerical skills.

“Our mission here at KRS is to make a positive impact in other peoples’ lives. And although it takes every team member to make this happen, our office folks don’t usually get to see the results of our efforts first hand,” says KRS President, Kyle Stephenson. “Working with the Business Connections program has allowed them to actually experience the joy of watching clients discover their strengths and in some cases even their passions. We look forward to providing a safe launching pad for many more Business Connections clients to come throughout 2017 and beyond.”
Business Connections’ Employment Specialists strive to identify appropriate job placements through vocational assessments of various employment skills within businesses in the Richmond, VA community. These assessments bring awareness to whether an individual is prepared to begin job development and identify strengths and barriers that may require customized employment.
KRS Holdings has provided consistent and beneficial work skills to promote strengths and confidence within the clients while being in an environment that fosters independence. Since the first assessment was conducted, there have been 10 different clients who have explored clerical skills and gained the confidence to seek employment with the transferable skills gained at KRS Holdings.
“When April Lynch from VCU RRTC, first approached me with the idea of having adults with disabilities come into KRS where I had just recently become employed, I never thought that I would enjoy working with the job coaches and clients this much, “Caitlin Cox said, “Having the opportunity to teach work skills to these amazing human beings has exceeded mine and management’s expectations. Each time I have a job coach request to schedule an assessment I get excited to meet this new unique individual seeking purpose and overall their contribution to helping me do my job even better. I hope to continue to be a source of encouragement for these adults and their coaches.”
Overall, the collaboration through KRS Holdings’s employees and Business Connections has continued to bring awareness to the community that individuals with disabilities can seek and obtain competitive employment when their preferences and skill set are supported.
