Is the insurance agent obsolete?

Tom Gosse – President and CEO of Northern Neck Insurance Company – will present the keynote address Tuesday, June 16 at the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia’s Annual convention in Williamsburg. The address will be a reprise of his recent presentation at the Virginia Commonwealth University Risk & Insurance Studies Conference on the future of technology in the insurance industry and challenging the question – Is the Agent Obsolete?

“Without a doubt, Tom’s message is an important one for all agencies looking to understand generational purchasing expectations,” noted Bill Ball of Ball Martin Insurance Agency, who served on a panel during the VCU conference.

Gosse’s presentation challenged agents and company representatives alike to look at the future and determine how they want to be positioned in the marketing mix and sale of insurance products.  He addressed consumer expectations such as, “How can I trust you if I can’t find you on Facebook?” and challenged the industry to look at the joining of technology as “where innovation begins.”

“The theme of our convention is how agents can thrive with revolutionary ideas.  What’s more revolutionary than how tomorrow’s generation of insurance customers will utilize technology in their purchasing decisions?” stated IIAV President & CEO Bob Bradshaw.  “Tom’s message at the VCU conference was probably the most important generational address I have ever heard and I’m thankful that he will present it at our convention.”
