U-R-Football, it’s in the game

spiderfootballThe University of Richmond Athletics Department scored a PR touchdown this week with the unveiling of the 2010 NCAA video football game.

On the back features a quarterback about the throw to a receiver wearing a Spider’s helmet and blue jersey.

Athletic Director Jim Miller said it was “neat.”

It’s unclear exactly what sort of exposure this will bring, but the video game world is projected to be a $46 billion industry by 2011 and is rapidly taking over music’s share of the entertainment market.

It is likely that The Spiders were given the honors because of their National Championship title last season when they upset Montana 24-7.

The athletics department has been promoting Spiders football, even purchasing a local spot during this week’s All Star Baseball Game.

“I think everyone is positive about Spider’s football this season,” Miller said. “We’ve got a lot of returning players from last year and we are all excited for the last season at UR Stadium.”

UR is building a $24.8 million on-campus stadium which will open in 2010.
