Martin’s teams up with the Squirrels for sellout

flyingsquirrels1Two newcomers to the Richmond business scene are marking their grand openings in the community with an advertising partnership.

Martin’s, the new owner of Ukrop’s, will be the presenting sponsor for the opening game of the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Squirrels spokesman Jon Laaser wouldn’t divulge financial details but said the Martin’s package includes a box suite for the season.

The game, April 15 against the Reading Phillies, sold out today. If you still want to go, there are season tickets available for $568.

More details on the Martin’s/Nutsy pairing from the news release:

“It was a great turnout for our first day of single game ticket sales and you could tell fans are really excited for the season to start,” said General Manager Bill Papierniak. “It is fitting to have a community-oriented partner like MARTIN’S be a part of what will be a tremendous night for the Richmond Metro Area.”

In addition to being the title sponsor of Opening Day, MARTIN’S is also the presenting sponsor of the Flying Squirrels reading program, “Go Nuts for Reading!”  Students at participating area elementary schools are encouraged to read eight books, check off those books on their official “Go Nuts for Reading” bookmark, and then redeem the completed bookmark for a free General Admission ticket to their designated Reading Night game at The Diamond.

The renovated ball park has a capacity of 9,560 seats. Ticket prices for individual games range from $6 to $10.
