A small protest at a BP station in the Fan drew the attention of a National Public Radio correspondent, who dug into the story to see how BP boycotts hurt local owners and not so much the giant oil company they have a problem with.
The NPR article is about one station in the Capital Region whose entrepreneurial owners had several pre-existing frustrations with BP. Now a tough business with slim margins has gotten even harder because consumers want to punish the oil giant by buying gas elsewhere.
“Betty Camacho says people associate her independent business with what’s happening in the Gulf of Mexico. “I can see my volume is not the same,” she says. “I can see that they are not coming.”
The owner of the BP station at Meadow and Cary told the Times-Dispatch that they haven’t seen any impact on their business since the spill.
NPR used a photo of the small protest held earlier this week at that station. You can read the story, and see their photo, here.
