A Shockoe Slip alternative energy firm has acquired another wood pellet manufacturing plant.
Enviva – which until earlier this year was called Intrinergy – bought a controlling interest in Tomorrow’s Energy LLC and it’s pellet facility from Mississippi-based Piney Wood Pellets.
The current plant can produce around 50,000 tons of wood pellets a year. Enviva’s investment would look to increase that to 150,000 tons.
“With this investment we are very excited to expand Enviva’s manufacturing footprint in Mississippi and increase our production of sustainably generated wood pellets to help our customers reduce their carbon footprint,” said CEO John Keppler in a statement.
Enviva said it will create 22 new jobs at the plant and potentially 30 more in its logging division.

Great. I bought and installed a pellet stove this past year.
I have found it works better with hard wood pellets vs. the soft wood ones that Piney Wood is known for.
