Innsbrook area restaurant closes

thepatioA West End restaurant has closed its doors for now.

The Patio, located at the Shoppes at Twin Oaks on Cox Road, was empty Friday afternoon, and a neighboring business said the restaurant had been closed for about a week.

Owner David Du could not be reached by press time.

Du originally opened Dd33 Asian Bistro in the location in 2006. The fusion restaurant received good reviews, but eventually the bad economy took a toll on the fine dining crowd. Du told the Richmond Times-Dispatch last June that he was retooling the restaurant because it wasn’t drawing enough diners.

In July, the restaurant reopened with the new name and concept, dishing up classic American food.

The Patio isn’t the first restaurant in the shopping center to close this year. The Ipanema Grill, a Brazilian restaurant, shut down in September. The center has several other small vacancies.

DD33 was one of the best restaurants in town. The fact that they had to close up and there are other terrible fine dining restaurants out there still open is a tragedy (Hondos for example). For those who missed out, it’s a shame. The change to the Patio was not a good idea. There are plenty of American food hangouts in the West End. Why not just tweak the DD33 menu to suit the economy? It was some of the best seafood I have ever had in my life. I don’t know why more people didn’t go there. One bad… Read more »

I went to the patio for lunch and I left wondering if they ever tasted their own food. That place was a candidate for “Kitchen Nightmares”, as in “This place is sinking and for the life of us, we can’t figure out why”. I order the chicken tenders and it took them about 45 minutes to show up. There were only two of them on the plate, they were lukewarm, bland, and the french fries were incredibly greasy. There were only a half dozen people when we got there so I have no idea why it took so long to… Read more »

We never ate there under the new concept, only went for drinks after work. They had great happy hour specials and it was nice to sit outside while it was warm. There are so few outdoor areas to eat/drink in the West End that are big enough to find a seat and this one was always full evidencing the need for more space like it in the area. Hate to see them go as they had another business partner who’s out of a job now…

Eating at home is healhier. Stay home and invite someone over if you need something to look at while eating.

If you use common sense and portion control you can be just as healthy eating out as you would be at home. Not everyone’s idea of “eating out” is a 2500 calorie chain restaurant gorge-fest.
