LaDifference, a locally owned furniture store that has operated in Shockoe Bottom for 30 years, is opening a second location in Short Pump.
The second store will occupy 7,000 square feet in West Broad Village at 2436 Old Brick Road.
“For years we’ve had customers driving from the West End and Charlottesville to our flagship store, and what we’ve heard is that they wanted us to be more convenient to where they live. By opening a second store at West Broad Village, we’re making LaDiff more accessible than ever,” said Sarah Paxton, co-owner of the store, in a written statement.
The store is expected to open Feb. 1 and will have a grand opening celebration Feb. 19 to 21. LaDiff, as the store is also called, plans to hire three or four full-time sales positions to staff the new store.
The new store is significantly smaller than the 50,000-square-foot flagship store on 14th Street in Richmond and will primarily feature bestsellers as well as what Paxton calls “showstopper” pieces.
Peter Vick, head of commercial leasing for Eagle Commercial Realty, said the owners of LaDiff sought them out because they liked the look and feel of West Broad Village and wanted to have a presence in the area.
“It is great to have them. They are such a well known Richmond name,” Vick said.
Vick said LaDiff has signed on a temporary basis with a six-month lease and has an option to extend the term if they decide they want to continue operating the second location.
“We are hoping it can become permanent,” Vick said.
Also at West Broad Village, Keagan’s Pub will be opening in Feburary. Vick said he is working on a few more deals with national and local tenants that should be finalized over the next few months, including the development of two out-parcels.
