Cherry, Bekaert & Holland LLP acquired Burrus, Paul & Turnbull, a 57-year-old CPA firm with offices in Norfolk and Newport News.  The acquisition adds two partners and nine professionals to the firm.

“Hampton Roads is one of CB&H’s key markets, so we are pleased to add the resources and talent of BP&T through this acquisition,” said Howard Kies, the firm’s managing partner, in a statement.

The firm already has an office in Virginia Beach and after the merger will have more than 80 professionals in the region. The firm has been growing elsewhere as well.

The firm boosted its presence in Florida by adding 115 people in the Miami area in December, bringing the firm’s total numbers to more than 750. The firm also has offices in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.

August Keller, director of marketing, said the firm is always on the lookout for strategic acquisitions, primarily in metro areas in the Southeast.

“It’s really been part of the firm’s strategy for years in terms of our growth vision,” Keller said. “Who they are serving as clients and who we want as clients is definitely part of the equation.”

The firm also recently moved its headquarters from Henrico County to a 21,000-square-foot space in the new Williams Mullen building downtown.

“We moved all of the boxes over the weekend, so yesterday was our first day in the office,” Keller said. “It’s nice to be in new digs.”
