A custom fit

mainstreetclothingA local entrepreneur has left the insurance business and launched two online apparel businesses.

Peter Wyngaard launched Main Street Clothing Company last May with his wife, and he recently started a second online clothing company on the side.

After spending three years as an insurance claims adjuster for Capstone ISG, Wyngaard realized the insurance business wasn’t really a fit for him.

“I was burned out, and it just wasn’t me,” said Wyngaard, 30.

Main Street Clothing is an online retail store that designs custom-printed T-shirts, jerseys, hats, bags and other items for local businesses and organizations. He has invested about $50,000 in the Main Street Clothing and said business has increased every month since opening.

He has a shop in Amelia, where most of the work is done. And although most customers find the company online, he has a Midlothian office where he occasionally meets customers.

The company has about 45 clients that they work with, most of them being recreational leagues, churches and athletic associations in Chesterfield and the West End.

WyngaardHis wife, Patty, previously worked as the director of sales for handbag retailer Bun Bun Bags.

Wyngaard expanded on the concept a few months ago. He launched the Lost Locker to focus on apparel for schools.

“We talked to schools about doing apparel for their booster clubs. Kids wanted school apparel with a retail feel,” he said.

Wyngaard plans to have a retail location in Chesterfield in the near future to sell his products and to do more customized products.

“I don’t regret it. I work so much harder now than I did before,” said Wyngaard.
