A local taxi company is expanding for the second time in less than two years.
Henrico-based Napoleon Taxicab is expanding its fleet and opening a bigger location in Richmond.
The company recently leased 6,000 square feet on Wickham Street in Richmond and plans to add three cars to its fleet by next month to accommodate its growing operations.
Jonathan Trainum, who started Napoleon Taxicab in December 2007, said revenue doubled in 2010 and the company outgrew its 3,000-square-foot building on Highpoint Avenue.
Trainum started with a one-cab operation out of his home on Seminary Avenue in Henrico and has expanded to a 23-cab fleet.
He said much of his company’s daytime business has come from taking people to work, and, not surprisingly, they get a huge chunk of their nighttime business from bar-hoppers.
Most of the company’s fleet consists of Chevrolet Impalas, Ford Crown Victorias, Dodge Caravans and Jeep Grand Cherokees.
Trainum said they’ve already bought a minivan and two Crown Vics, and he’s looking to add three or four more four-wheel drive vehicles.
“Jeeps are good for the ice and snow,” he said. “We’re looking to have 10 percent of our fleet be vehicles that can be used for inclement weather.”
