President Barack Obama brought his jobs message to Richmond this morning, delivering a speech to thousands of supporters at the University of Richmond.
Obama continued his refrain to “pass this bill” that he repeated last night during a televised speech before Congress in which he laid out facets of his American Jobs Act.
“All these proposals have been supported by Democrats and Republicans before, and they should be supporting them now,” Obama said. “That will only happen if they put politics aside for a moment and deal with America’s problems. The only way they are going to do that is if they hear from you.”
Obama urged the near-capacity crowd at the Robins Center to write, fax, tweet, call and even jokingly to send carrier pigeons to their representatives.
“Now is not the time for them to worry about their jobs, it is time for them to worry about yours,” Obama said.
