An upscale retailer just closed its only Richmond store.
United Colors of Benetton has abandoned its Richmond location at Stony Point Fashion Park.
Linda Yemma, customer service manager, confirmed the store had closed but said she hasn’t been given any information about why it closed or whether a new tenant is in the works. The store has been at the mall since it opened in 2003. The Italian brand sells brightly-colored clothing for men and women, and children.
Benetton Group, the store’s parent company, operates about 6,000 of the stores in 120 countries. It also produces a few other fashion brands, such as Sisley, a children’s line, and Playlife, a preppy line for college students.
The stores are managed by independent partners and generate about $3 billion a year in revenue.
Benetton closed a store in Atlanta this year.
And closing stores isn’t the company’s only concern: In May, the Nashville Post reported that Benetton Trading USA, the distributor of the store’s products, was suing the owners of a Benetton store in Nashville for owing $200,000 in unpaid inventory. Read more on that here.
