A plastic manufacturing facility in Eastern Henrico will close at the start of next year.
Berry Plastics Corp., based in Evansville, Ind., announced that it will close the facility, known as the Eastport Plant, on Jan. 2 and consolidate the operations with its other plants in Georgia and New Jersey.
The facility produces plastic bottles and employs about 130 people. The 173,400-square-foot facility has been operated by Berry since February 2008.
“In this uncertain economic environment, an in-depth review of our business determined this step is necessary,” said Curt Begle, president of the division, in a statement.
The company said it would assist employees with finding jobs at other Berry plants or with other employers in the local market.
