PR firm gets a big upgrade

alliancegroupA Richmond public relations and government affairs firm has found itself a new home in the Fan.

The Alliance Group purchased the warehouse building at 2201 W. Main St. last May for $375,000. The company is renovating the space.

“We had the neighborhood guessing — there was talk that it would be restaurant. There were people saying that the area didn’t need another restaurant,” said Rob Jones, president of the firm.

Jones said he plans to move the firm, which has a staff of 10, into the space by the end of the year. Jones said the new office will give them about 5,700 square feet of space, a big upgrade from the 1,800-square foot office it leases on South 12th Street downtown.

“We are designing the space to add many more employees,” Jones said. “We are also going from one conference room to five and adding a room for reception.”

Jones said he looked for about six months before zeroing in on the property, which was built in 1950 and home to Blackburn Mattress and Upholstery.

“I saw it as an opportunity to take a run own building and bring some life and to it and be an asset to the neighborhood,” Jones said.

The 12-year-old PR firm also does advocacy and association management. Its clients include Ford Motor Company, Pfizer and the Virginia Wine Council.

That building looks better every time I drive past it. I’ve been wondering what was going in there. That’s great! Congratulations on the new office!
