I was at a friend’s party on Friday night and saw a Virginia Tech shower curtain. That’s some love.
And it got me thinking about when college retailing went from selling apparel, pint glasses, notebooks and maybe a bumper sticker, to everything under the sun – from grill covers to birdhouses.
And I have the feeling that Virginia Tech fans probably buy the most of this stuff. I just have trouble believing that there is a William and Mary shower curtain. So why does Virginia Tech have such a powerful brand?
And for BizSense readers with a few more years on me: When did Virginia Tech’s retail appeal get so popular? Was it directly correlated to a good football program and Michael Vick?
