Our new look for 2012

rbsnewwebsiteOn Tuesday BizSense will look a little different. And we hope a lot better.

The homepage will be able to showcase more stories and have a section called Editor’s Picks that will promote some of the most-read and commented- on stories. The site’s design uses more white space and should be easier to navigate. For advertisers, we’re enhancing the wrap position to spread wider in the margins. We’re also moving to Google’s ad tracking software.

The news stories will often start with a big photo. That means our reporters will be carrying their cameras on all their assignments and snapping shots of the people and places that we cover. Each story will have a byline with the reporter’s biography and photo. And next to each story will be a tab that lets readers “like” or “favor” stories through their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The Daily NewsFeed Email, which goes out to 11,000 readers, is also getting some upgrades. We will have the option of putting a photo that accompanies a story along with the customary blurb. We are also reducing the number of ads to make the power of each ad more concentrated and effective.

BizSense Pro, our premium pay package, will be even more valuable next year. In 2011 we ran a weekly courts roundup, a bi-weekly patent roundup and a weekly list of business licenses.

Next year we’re adding a monthly list of residential properties that sold for more than $500,000. And we just hired a data firm from Colorado to help us start publishing bi-weekly lists of the top companies within an industry. We will have a more formal announcement for the BizSense List in two or three weeks.

All stories will continue to be open to every reader.

We want your feedback on how the site can be easier to use and more helpful, so please drop us an email.
